"Another comie douche bag, Cuomo is nothing but a sex pest who got by because his useless piece of shit father. Never had a job and still don’t".
THIS is the response I got from a person on X for defending Andrew Cuomo's Martin Luther King Jr Day post. He didn't like me telling him that he didn't have to share everything that popped into his head.
Defending Andrew Cuomo and telling people the truth is the reason I started this blog. I found this information in newspapers and books. Who'd a thunk it. So, here is your response to "he never had a job"...
Andrew Cuomo graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School, a private, college prep Catholic school in Briarwood, in 1975. It was—and still is—known for its intense academic standards and a strong emphasis on "Mind, Body, and Spirit." While he was still a student, Cuomo’s primary "job" was working on his father’s early political campaigns.
As a teenager, he was out in the neighborhoods of Queens and Brooklyn, physically hanging posters on telephone poles, handing out literature, and organizing local volunteers.
During his senior year of high school, his father ran for Lieutenant Governor of New York. Andrew was heavily involved in the day-to-day grunt work of that campaign, which served as his "apprenticeship" for the high-level management roles he would take on just a few years later.
He was gaining a reputation for being his father’s protector. Unlike many of his peers who might have had paper routes or worked in retail, Andrew’s "work" was protective and strategic—ensuring his father’s events ran smoothly and dealing with the rougher aspects of New York City street politics in the 70s.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University in 1979 and a Juris Doctor degree from Albany Law School in 1982. During this time Andrew worked as a tow-truck driver primarily.
He worked as a roadside assistance tow-truck driver and mechanic.
He has frequently described himself as a "car nut" who grew up working in gas stations in Queens. He used the earnings from this job to help support himself while earning his Bachelor of Arts (1979) and his Juris Doctor (1982).
This early experience left a lasting impression on his public persona. Even as Governor, he was known for stopping his motorcade to personally assist stranded motorists or help pull people from car wrecks, often using his own hands-on knowledge of towing and mechanics to assist first responders.
By Day/Night, he was under a tow truck or at a gas station earning a paycheck. During Elections, he was volunteering as his father’s driver and campaign worker, eventually becoming the manager of Mario Cuomo’s 1982 gubernatorial campaign at just 24 years old.
Immediately after his father was elected in 1982, Andrew moved into the Executive Mansion in Albany with him. He and his father were famously close and often shared late-night strategy sessions in the mansion. He served as his father’s Special Advisor for a token salary of $1 a year.
During this time, Andrew was widely known as the "Enforcer." It was essentially to protect his father's political interests. Because Mario Cuomo was seen as a high-minded, philosophical orator, Andrew took on the "tough" work. He handled the aggressive negotiations and backroom politics that his father preferred to stay above.
He also was the primary filter for who got access to the Governor, which often made him a polarizing figure among other New York politicians even at a young age.
